About Britta

Britta Giese is wine consultant who believes that wine brings people back to who they are. Everyone has an individual experience and she believes that you can never tell people what they think or feel and thus the difference in her tasting seminars.

“The worst thing you can do is ‘think’, let your senses guide the experience” says the sommelier who finds beauty in the now.

She is currently the Sommelier and Cellar Manager of the renowned Sooke Harbour House which gives her the opportunity to explore the art of wine and food pairing with a special focus on local ingredients. When her sense of adventure brought her to Canada, she realized the immense potential of British Columbia as a premium wine region and the desire of its people to learn about wine and she hasn’t left since.

Born amongst vines in Ingelheim, a small German wine town in the Rhine Valley Britta began drinking small sips of wine with water when she was 6 years old and harvested grapes during fall vacations as a student.

As her interest in wine kept growing and growing, she deepened her knowledge by taking courses, attending seminars and accumulating an ever-increasing library of wine books and applying her knowledge to the practical reality of tasting wine. This has led her to her studies with the Wine and Spirit Education Trust and she now holds the Certificate for Advanced Wine Studies and entering the Diploma program in preparation for her Masters Degree.
